Department of Public Safety Photograph Collection

These photographs (64 photos donated by Major Andrew Monti) document activities of the Department of Public Safety from its creation in 1947 to 1968. Most of the photos date from the 1950's. Included is a photo of Governor Gibson swearing in the first Commissioner Merrit Edson July 1, 1947, and Governor Gibson inspecting recruits at the first Vermont State Police Academy in Vergennes, 1949. There are a number of group photos of State Police Recruit Classes at Barre Academy, as well as shots of troopers' target practice, dusting for fingerprints, patrol cars, State Police exhibits and various ceremonial events.
